200th Article Published: IC's Cover Feature
Oct 24 2006
Blanche Kapustin published her 200th article today when Inside Cheerleading magazine selected her interview of Ayrica Everhart as its cover feature.
"While I'm happy to pass the 200 milestone, I'm really more excited about Ayrica," said Kapustin. "She's such a role model--for adults and noncheerleaders, as well as the magazine's target audience. I am thrilled to see a spotlight on a hard-working, community-oriented teen, and Ayrica is a true gem."
While many of the 200 articles were on topics assigned by various publications' editors-in-chief or publishers, Kapustin's favorite pieces have grown out of her own passions. "If an article encourages readers to do good or highlights somebody for their positive influences, I enjoy writing it more than my typical articles. This year, the Kingstonian team gave me a list of stellar volunteers and let me interview one per month. Inside Cheerleading let me interview Ayrica after I noticed her down-to-earth, always-giving attitude on Lifetime Channel's 'Cheer Nation.' And I was also given a ghostwriting assignment that let me research and write about people I consider real heroes. These opportunities reenergized my writing."
Is 300 the next big goal? After publishing 200 articles in under three years, Kapustin plans to shift her attention to her long-term projects. She is rewriting a memoir of her college years as a tiger mascot, using suggestions from peers in her local writers' groups.
