Andy Zhang's Memories of an Eastern Sky Published!Sep 28 2007Congratultions to Andy Zhang on the publication of Memories of an Eastern Sky. The book is now available for purchase through Amazon.com and other outlets. The novel takes place during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, following one family's struggle to survive, in fact, Andy's family. In preparation for writing it, Andy spoke with his father at great length about often painful memories. The book pulls no punches, and readers are likely to alternate between relief and horror as episodes of the story unfold. It offers insight into a culture that will be much in the spotlight as the world anticipates the 2008 Olympics in China. Andy brought chapters of his manuscript to the Kingstowne Library Peer Review writers group over the course of almost a year. His peers frequently commented on his excellent descriptions, enabling the readers to feel they were enveloped in the story. The writers group is one of several hosted by Fairfax County Libraries, all free and open to the public. In this particular group, Peer Review, writers may submit up to 25 pages, double-spaced, for critique each month. Writers are then given two or three of their peers' works to review over the course of approximately 10 days. At the meeting, each writer receives at least 20 minutes of in-depth feedback and leaves with written suggestions. For more information on this or other northern Virginia writers groups, e-mail KingstowneLibraryWriters@yahoo.com.
